Not every tree removal job is straightforward. When LSJ Services Ltd was called out to a property in Rainworth, Nottingham, the task ahead came with two significant challenges: a heavily restricted access point and a large section of tree hanging directly over a neighbouring property.
It was exactly the kind of job that calls for careful planning, the right equipment, and a team that knows what they are doing.
The tree in question was a large conifer that had outgrown its position and needed to be removed in full. Conifers of this size are a common sight in residential gardens across Nottinghamshire, but their scale can make removal far more involved than it might appear from the outside.
The first challenge on this job was access. Rather than having a clear, open route to work from, the entire tree had to be brought down and removed through a narrow alley running along the back of the property.
This ruled out any possibility of simply dropping the tree in one piece and meant that the whole removal had to be carefully sectioned, with each piece of timber manoeuvred out through the tight passage.
Working in restricted access situations like this requires patience and methodical working practices. Sections need to be cut to a size that can be safely handled and moved without causing damage to the surrounding fencing, walls, or neighbouring structures, and the work has to be carried out in the right sequence from the top of the tree downwards.
The second challenge was the upper section of the tree, which was overhanging a neighbouring house. This is a situation that demands particular care.
Allowing any section of the canopy to drop freely onto a neighbouring roof or garden is not an option, so each branch and section in the upper crown had to be carefully rigged and lowered in a controlled manner before the main stem could be worked down through the alley.
This kind of controlled dismantling takes considerably longer than a straightforward felling operation, but it is the only responsible way to approach a tree in this position.
Despite the access restrictions and the sensitivity around the neighbouring property, the job was completed cleanly and without incident. All sections of the conifer were removed from site, leaving the customer with a clear, tidy space and no damage
